Honey Adaptogen Lozenges are built on more than seventy years of research into adaptogens: plants studied for their ability to help the body resist stress. This page maps that science, from the early laboratory studies to the modern reviews now published in English.
What we have done is build the formula on seven decades of published research into Russian adaptogen science, Siberian medicinal plants, and Altai honey: work that began long before this brand existed.
A short history
Seventy-five years of adaptogen science
1947 — Where the word came from
Nikolai Lazarev coins the term adaptogen
Russian pharmacologist Nikolai V. Lazarev proposed the term to describe a class of substances that raise the body’s general resistance to physical, chemical and biological stress. His work was carried out at the national Academy of Medical Sciences and was driven by a practical question: how to keep people performing under heavy, sustained physical load. The name stuck because it filled a gap that words like tonic and stimulant could not.
1957 – 1969 — The three criteria
Brekhman and Dardymov formalise what an adaptogen is
Israel I. Brekhman, working in Vladivostok, and his colleague Igor V. Dardymov tightened the definition into three operational criteria: an adaptogen has to be safe across a wide dose range, must produce a non-specific increase in resistance to a broad range of stressors, and must have a normalising effect regardless of the direction of the deviation. These three criteria are still the working reference today. The plants they brought into the literature (Eleutherococcus (Siberian ginseng), Rhodiola, Schisandra, and later Leuzea (maral root) and Aralia) became the core of the Russian adaptogen tradition.
1970s – 1980s — Field use
From the lab to real-world performance
By the 1970s the same plants had moved from the lab into real use: to support endurance in elite athletes, resistance to fatigue in people on long, demanding missions, and recovery in those working under extreme physical strain. Most of the detailed work on Leuzea, including the study of its active compounds (a group of plant molecules called ecdysteroids), and on Red Root as a Siberian plant, dates from this period. Much of this literature exists only in Russian, in specialist pharmacology journals and the publications of the Russian Academy of Sciences Siberian Branch, one reason English-speaking readers often miss it.
1990s – today — Modern continuity
Continuing in Siberia, read worldwide today
Over the following decades the research continued inside Siberian institutions: Tomsk Polytechnic University and the Siberian State Medical University, the Institute of Cytology and Genetics in Novosibirsk, and regional pharmacology departments close to the source plants. In parallel, international researchers, most prominently the Swedish-Armenian pharmacologist Alexander Panossian, translated this work into English and brought the modern adaptogen concept into the major medical databases. The European Medicines Agency has since published assessment reports on several of these plants. This science did not begin in 2010, when the wellness industry discovered the word.

All of the research above sits behind one simple thing: a lozenge you let dissolve under your tongue three times a day. Leuzea and Red Root are the two roots that decades of work pointed to; raw Altai honey and beeswax are how we deliver them under the tongue, without sugar, caffeine or synthetic carriers. That is the core of the formula.

Halal certification with the Saudi SFDA is in progress, and we would rather tell you exactly where we stand than show a badge we have not yet earned. Is it safe for me? It is not for anyone under 18, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or alongside prescription medication for blood pressure or hormonal conditions without a doctor’s review. Four pillars of evidence we rely on

Botanical ingredient research
More than six decades of Russian and international research on Leuzea, Red Root, propolis and royal jelly, covering their active compounds, how they are extracted, lab and animal studies, and small human studies. This is the deepest pillar; everything else builds on top of it.

Honey-as-carrier evidence
A separate body of research on raw honey as a way to carry plant actives: its natural sugars, enzyme activity, antibacterial properties, and the case for letting a substance absorb under the tongue rather than swallowing it. This is why the lozenge format exists.

Centuries of traditional use
Ethnobotanical record from indigenous Altai and Siberian herbal medicine, including the name maral root for Leuzea, drawn from the observation that red deer dig it up before mating season. Traditional use is not a substitute for trials, but it is what guided researchers to the plants in the first place.

Manufacturer quality dossier
Lab analyses from an independent, accredited laboratory, plus full registration under the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) food-safety technical regulations (TR CU 021/2011 and 022/2011).
